DIDLS- The key to tone.

I am impressed with the student’s ability to solve word problems.  Our weekly mathematics seminars are building our students’ confidence.  They no longer fear wordy, lengthy problems. I look forward to observing their skills in full bloom in the spring. 

We analyzed the following sentence in today’s grammar workshop: The voice of the sea is seductive, never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude. The Awakening, Kate Chopin

The class identified the sentence type, structure, pattern, length, tone, and effect of the sentence.  Then they each imitated the sentence. Here are some examples:

“The wind flows freely; whistling, carrying, gliding, asking those who dare to join in its never ending flight.” – Jordan 

“The voice of time is free; lasting, wandering, fearless, crating a place to explore.” – Anthony 

“The voice of space is entrancing, always flowing, growing, shaping, telling, taking the mind for a walk through endless knowledge.” – Josh 

We practiced summarizing a newspaper article for current events, and I think we may have finally completed our timelines.  Tonight we discuss Childhood to Adolescence with our classroom parents.  Great day everyone!
